When should I contact HHAMA regarding registering?

After you have completed your home assessment with your social worker and you have received a positive recommendation from the HSE/Adoption Society, you should contact HHAMA to receive a registration pack. This contains the current list of documents required for your dossier, information on how to obtain certain paperwork and some of the required forms.

How do I register with HHAMA?

You are required to register in person with HHAMA. In the case of a joint application (married couple), only one of you need attend, however both are welcome. You need to come to the HHAMA office in Cork with your dossiers – one original and two copies, ALL three notarised, certified and apostilled; together with the other paperwork required as requested in the registration pack. We will check your paperwork and discuss the next stage of the process with you. You can only be registered if all your paperwork is complete and in order.

Do I need an appointment to register with HHAMA?

Yes. When you have your appointment made with the Department of Foreign Affairs to get your dossiers apostilled (the last step in the process before registering with HHAMA), contact us to make an appointment. It is impossible to say how long you will be waiting to register as each week differs in relation to the number of people who are ready to register.

How often should I contact HHAMA after I have registered?

HHAMA will contact you if necessary in relation to your application. Please only call the office if you have serious concerns, this frees up the staff to deal with the day to day running of the agency. Please do not contact the office to enquire as to when you will receive a proposed placement or when you will receive a travel date. These are outside of HHAMA’s control and we do not receive any information on proposed placements or travel dates until the Vietnamese authorities contact us regarding same. We will contact you as soon as a proposed placement has become available for you and as soon as a travel date has been issued for you.
